Our team diagnoses and treats multiple pulmonary issues and disorders, including:
Shortness of breath
Shortness of breath is a common symptom, and we conduct a thorough clinical evaluation and diagnostic process. This includes a complete Pulmonary Function Test (PFT), echocardiography, lab work, and chest imaging. For more complex cases, we may also recommend a cardio-pulmonary exercise test, which we analyze to help determine the diagnosis.
Chronic cough
Chronic cough is another common symptom, the primary evaluation of which is clinical. In difficult cases, we perform bronchoscopy as part of our diagnosis process. Asthma With asthma concerns, we may perform spirometry, complete PFTs, allergy testing and blood work. We will find the best treatment for you, from inhaled corticosteroids to the latest biologic injections and advanced options such as bronchial thermoplasty.
Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)
To assess your COPD, we may perform complete PFTs, alpha-1-antitrypsin deficiency testing, or oxygen testing. Treatment options can include inhalers, nebulizers, oral medications, oxygen therapy, and nocturnal ventilators.
Interstitial lung disease/pulmonary fibrosis
This refers to a group of lung conditions that cause scarring or fibrosis in lung tissue, leading to shortness of breath and a dry cough. Diagnosing these conditions involves multiple diagnostic approaches, including CT chest imaging, HRCT imaging, and blood tests.
Lung cancer
Lung cancer can be difficult to diagnose, but we utilize the latest diagnostic technologies in bronchoscopy, such as endobronchial ultrasound with transbronchial biopsy and electromagnetic navigational bronchoscopy.
At AdventHealth Wesley Chapel, our physicians conduct bi-monthly multispecialty Thoracic Tumor Board meetings, bringing together experts from pulmonology, thoracic surgery, oncology, radiology, pathology, and radiation oncology. These sessions allow for collaborative consultation, ensuring the best possible care for patients with lung cancer.
Our lung cancer patients benefit from a multispecialty consultation with experts from both AdventHealth and Moffitt Cancer Center. We offer a range of advanced surgical and non-surgical treatments for selected advanced lung cancers.
Pulmonary nodules
Pulmonary nodules are commonly detected through CT imaging. We carefully assess them and follow established criteria, performing additional imaging as needed.
Pleural disorders
Pleural effusions are fluid collections around the lungs. We offer a full range of diagnostic procedures, including thoracentesis, pleuroscopy, and therapeutic treatments such as indwelling pleural catheter placement and pleurodesis.
Bronchiectasis
Bronchiectasis is the abnormal enlargement of airways, often leading to chronic cough and shortness of breath. We offer comprehensive diagnostic testing, including lab work, CT imaging, and bronchoscopy. Management options include nebulizers, inhalers, vest therapy, and other treatments.
